Route 49 and Route 55 Interchange Improvements

  • Description: NJDOT project that consists of a widening of roadway and addition of deceleration lane on Route 55 southbound. Associate with this work are two major retention basins which are for water control. The Route 49 work consists of removal and relocation of all utilities including: AC Electric, Comcast, Verizon, SJ Gas. Additionally, Mount Construction Co., will be installing a 1 mile long subterranian retention system as well as new surface drainage. The work will take place on route 49 between route 55 and wade boulevard. The work on route 49 also includes the removal of existing pavement and widening to two lanes in each direction with new traffic signal at intersection of Route 49 & 55. Major items consists of: 42,000 CY of unclassified excavation, 11,000 LF of concrete and HDPE pipe varying in size from 15” to 48”, 170 drainage structures, 9,000 SY of pavement removal, 31,000 tons of asphalt, 50,000 SY of subbase DGA, 5 major sign structures, and new weight-in-motion system.
